If these delightful clutches from Miu Miu’s spring 2010 taster are anything to go by, then I think we can expect something pretty special from the label in the new year. The wonderfully summery ’swallow’ bag is the perfect match for a sundress and sandals combo, while the kitten bag is just too cute for words.

The cat and bird motifs run right through Miu Miu’s ready-to-wear collection for 2010 and you can see how it appears on the clothing here. I’ve got to admit, I think I’d rather keep it minimal and on the accessories only – don’t you agree?

This lovely bag from Miu Miu gets the balance just right between smart and businesslike chic and fun bag about town. The squishy leather certainly adds to the everyday wearability, and the shiny gold studs give a fashion twist.

Made from navy leather for a slight salute towards the miliarty, it’s technically ‘discount’, but only in the Outnet sense of the word which means £345. Still, it’s half price, which is not to be sniffed at in such an on-trend style!

Miu Miu is one label that’s not afraid of using a bit of colour in its autumn/winter collections, and in addition to the ubiquitous orange, they’ve gone for a rather etherial shade of lilac in their A/W 2010 accessories.

At first glance these styles look a bit OTT, but that’s not helped by the models identically-toned outfits, which do a good job of putting the viewer off! I think that worn with subtle shades of grey or monochrome tones these bags would look the business – with a padded look to rival Chanel’s Cocoon range.

The Bag Lady was starting to think that Miu Miu had gone a little bit far with their swallows, cats and other endless bird and animal prints (high street apeing is now rife), but this satin pochette bag really is a beautiful use of the brand’s pattern of choice.

Perhaps it’s the new shade of golden, sunny yellow or maybe it’s the oversize, daisy-shaped clasp. Whatever it is, it’s given a fresh look to this familiar print and created a perfect, glamorous summer accessory.

Big is certainly beautiful in Miu Miu’s pre-fall collection, and there’s not a cat or a swallow in sight. In fact, these mega-bags are a far cry from the cutesy styling that the label seemed to have come to represent this summer. Instead, check out the distressed and pockmarked textures on those bags – it’s a grown-up look for the more grown-up part of the fashion year.

Taking a leaf out of Chanel’s much-thumbed book, Miu Miu has gone for a padded aesthetic, with plenty of synthetic and shiny fabrics on display. The chunkiness sits nicely alongside the thick Argyll socks and chunky mittens that are key in the label’s forthcoming range.

If you spotted Miu Miu’s pale blue nappa cloucquet bag and wondered how it would actually work as part of an outfit, you’ll get a good idea of that from actress Rachel McAdams, who has incorporated it just perfectly into her own effortlessly chic style. The powder blue bag is just one of many ‘loose weave’ accessories that went on sale this summer, led in many cases by Chanel’s ‘Country’ range — and seeing one in situ is proof enough that there is nothing ‘woolly’ about this style.

The ‘Nappa Clocquet’ style is based around the highly fashionable satchel shape, but it’s been given that laid-back summer touch, in a series of pale pastels. The sharper the outfit, the more effective the contrast, which is why I think it works so well held against Rachel’s body-hugging outfit. Love the plaited handle, too!
