An Gucci Classic “Babouska” Medium Tote

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I always think that horse studs are unique to Hermes as a tradition. But this season I have seem so many suds on Gucci handbags that I may say something as well. Fine, I have to admit that horse stud in shining golden brass is chic and attracting. But too much is worse than none.

Let’s take this so called Gucci Classic “Babouska” Medium Tote as an example. Made from beige and ebony crystal GG fabric with brown leather and brown suede teim and antique brass hard ware, it is too complex for a bag. Bag should be as bag does. It is merely a bag, not an artist work. With a size of 44 x 11 x 31 cm, it can easily hold all your belongings. That’s good. The D ring detail, double handles, snap closure, bottom feet and inside zip and mobile phone pockets are all functional. There is nothing wrong to pick up. But the heart-shaped Gucci crest detail, the fringe detail, the studs, together with the already complex GG fabrics make this bag rather confusing. We have reason to believe that the Gucci design house has no idea about the truth: simplicity is the ultimate beauty.Get a replica Gucci Product at huge discount on

Gucci Tattoo Print Poncho

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I always believe that creation is the secret of fashion. Without innovation, fashion dies. Thus the ability to create something new and unique is essential to the competition between various fashion design houses. Fortunately, Gucci is able to offer something new, the Gucci Tattoo Print Poncho.

I like this Gucci poncho very much. It is made from 100% soft white cotton and with a size of 70 x 150 cm. It is made by a single large sheet of fabric with a large opening in the center for the head. And it is fitted with robe fasteners to close the sides once the poncho is draped over the body, with openings provided for the arms. To me, I like the tattoo print especially. It is off-white with red print like stars, crest, logo and blooming flowers. This tattoo can keep you warm when you are in an office with strong cold air. Besides, this poncho with festive design can be worn at special events as well. More Gucci Products are on sale

New York Hates Gucci

apples_and_bag.jpg

Gucci “Hearts” New York but sadly, it is an unrequited love. We first covered thehappy story of this partnership last week. But since then, New York City’s Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), who owns the trademark to I “heart symbol” New York, became a little ticked that PPR (who owns Gucci) did not get permission to use this logo. Uh, did they also hear that all the proceeds from this bag is going back to New York to the Playground Partners Central Park Improvement Program? What is the issue here really? It sounds to me like ego because not only is there no harm, this only benefits the city with cash and PR. And what sane person would fight to turn away cash and PR? This makes no sense. So, to be charitable, we first have to consult with our legal team? I mean, sure Gucci gets something out of this, they want to promote their new giant flagship store on 5th Ave but hello, doesn’t that also benefit the city of New York? Decisively marking it as the fashion capital and the most important market for Gucci? Margaret Brennan of CNBC is covering the ongoing saga, read her continuing coverage.

Alesssandra Gucci: AG Limited Edition

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

alessangucci.jpg
This Gucci heir is not cashing in on her famous surname, well, not directly anyway (And if she did, she’d get sued by the Gucci group. Oh, and her mother is in jail for arranging a hitman to kill her father. The Gucci tale is one of murder and madness!).Alessandra Gucci’s line of handbags, called AG Limited Edition has created quite a stir in the fashion industry because of her name but they will be remembered for their unique designs. I am not a big fan of over embellished bags without much function but I do appreciate the unique design of the one above– it is the perfect bag for Fancy Nancy in her chauffeured Bentley! There will only be 99 AG Limited bags made in three styles and three colors, wholesale price is steep at $6,665 to $10,134 (meaning retail will be a bit more than double that). What do you think? Will the line sink or swim, in other words: Snob or Slob?

Gucci Charlotte Hobo

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

gucci_charlotte_blue.jpggucci_charlotte_brown.jpgToday is all about reminiscing, I guess the end of the year will do that to you. This Gucci bag is almost identical to the first Gucci bag I owned and loved, it was this same structured hobo with the thin strap, no logo (this has the GG embossed on the leather on the lower part) but it was suede and I used it with dedication because back in those days, even though I had multiple bags, I stuck to just one. But with a bag like this, you only need one, I even went out clubbing with it and it stayed on my shoulder, at my side without falling or annoyance. The straps are adjustable so anyone can have the perfect fit and the scooped top conforms perfectly. It is also the ideal size, 15″ x 10″ – carries everything but the shape deceives its size so you don’t look like you are actually carrying everything. I don’t even mind the subtle GG embossing, the upgrades like the easy overlapping closure, adjustable and colors make up for that. Of course, I would get it in the amazing light gray blue because I am not looking for the ONE bag, but this ashy brown is the ultimate if you are looking for THE ultimate. At Bergdorf Goodman for $995.

The New Jackie from Gucci

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

newjackiegucci.jpgguccibrownjackie.jpgAll you Gucci fans can stop harassing me– I have plenty of nice (and just a few not so nice) to say about the New Jackie hobo. The original Jackie bag launched a thousand knockoffs which I’m sure pissed Gucci off to no end so why not join in right? I do like this bag (in both colors); the hand stitched detail gives the traditional bag a boho chic twist that Jackie herself would have approved of. Actually, it’s more Ali McGraw circa Love Story. Anyway, even the tassle is appropriate for the bag but lose the shoulder strap, use it on your dog or whatever, just don’t use it with the bag. Now the not so nice; the bag is huge– it’s 19 inches! Sounds like I’m describing a newborn and it probably weighs as much as a one. Oh, don’t look at the price, you’ll be so pissed. Serious, don’t do it. Okay fine I’ll just tell you, it’s $3,195 for. a. leather. tote. Your turn– want me to say it for you? WTF!?!?

Gucci Python Tribeca

Gucci_PythonTribeccaBag.jpg

I’ll be upfront, I am not the biggest Gucci fan, especially after last season’s stud farm from hell collection. And this is not studs of the manly kind, those I don’t mind in abundance. I am merely pointing out the fact that there is a pleasant lack of studs this season and although the pared down look is not a lust and must, it is a step in the right direction. This messenger style in python with the simple and cute heart logo is rather nice. And for python, $2695 is not a terrible price, considering that some of their leather bags are over $3000. This is not a raving review but I like to give props when props are due. If I needed a messenger and I am a Gucci lover, this might be the thing for me. Gucci Python Tribeca Shoulder Bag at Saks Fifth Avenue for $2695.

Father’s Day Bags Fit for a Snob

I’ve been getting a lot of man bag requests. To be honest, I’ve kind of given up because man bags are for the most part really boring and the ones that are actually cool and exciting are apparently too feminine. But for Father’s Day, I went through them all and came up with some less boring ones that are super functional and others that are quite amazing that are even marketed as man bags. I mean, that is pretty much the most fun aspect of man bag shopping, being baffled by the inappropriateness some of these are for men.

My favorite of all the ones I’ve seen is this Varvatos Calfskin Tote for $1595. It has an urban edge and is rugged enough for even the manliest of manly men. I don’t know about carrying this every day but for weekend, travel and even for work, this is one uber cool bag.

The conventional option is this Prada Saffiano Tessuto Toteicon, $1495, for everyday office use. It isn’t as boring as a briefcase and has all the niceties of a Prada so for the straight edge dad, this is still quite stylish.

Gucci Large Lucy Clutch

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

gucci_lucyclutch.jpgguccilucyclutch_open.jpgicon

I am not a huge Gucci fan and on several occasions I’ve complained about their overuse of bamboo but this clutch makes me have to eat my words. This is the perfect way to use the bamboo – subtle, functional and adds the contrast and interest a simple, classic clutch needs. And it is not even that classic, the shape and style are, but the foldover design definitely knocks it up a notch in modernity. The problem with most foldover bags is that is does not stay folded over when closed, it kind of hangs partially open and looks stupid. But the bamboo turnlock takes care of that. The textured gray leather is gorgeous and versatile. The center band detailing polishes it off, just wish that tassel could be removed. At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $830.

Gucci’s new groove: Icon Bit Bag

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

gucciiconic701.jpggucciiconic7012.jpg Could this be!?!? The Snobs post two glowing reviews of Gucci bags in one week!?!? Gucci has been catching our eye lately in a good way (and not the omg I’m ashamed I ever carried/wore anything with GG on it way).  First the large Lucy clutch and now the Iconic bag with horsebit hardware.  Very impressed with the use of the brand’s iconic horsebit as the zipper pull, it makes a strong “I am Gucci” statement without compromising on design or resorting to the overkill of logos.  The pleated detail softens the hobo and lends a fresh young vibe to the aging brand.  I am all about the RTW this season from Gucci, too.  Frida Giannini’s latest efforts will soon have people saying, Tom who?   Gucci Iconic Bag (15.7″w) at Saks for $1,950 (if they can drop the prices a wee bit they’d have a major hit here!) icon
