Chanel “Coco Country” Bag

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Panier en toile tissée - Woven canvas basket bag1.jpg

When Karl Lagerfeld erected a Chanel barn for his spring fashion show–complete with haystacks and reclaimed wood–I knew he had something pastoral up his sleeve. While I may not have agreed with his choice of shoes (clogs anyone?), the bags are a completely different story. I love the playful take on classic Chanel bags refashioned and crocheted with raffia, ribbon and fabric flowers. This “Coco Country” top handle bag, however, is both on-trend and ladylike. The ladies-who-lunch set from Hong Kong to Boston will snap this bag up for sure (if they can get their hands on the few pieces produced). It’s by no means a lightweight piece; the sturdy woven raffia ensures this structured bag keeps its shape while swallowing all your daily essentials. A nice twist? Chanel’s classic quilted leather used in the handles and CC charm and also to rim the bag’s opening. My only qualm with this bag, and with many of Chanel’s seasonal bags, is exactly that: seasonal. Beyond this spring, this bag may soon seem passé. But its eye candy factor will continue unchanged.

Emilio Pucci Marquise Bag

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Peter Dundas is a seriously underappreciated talent. This former designer at Roberto Cavalli and Ungaro–now creative director of Emilio Pucci–has never let his passion for cutting-edge design be marred by trends or corporate restraint. The same can be said for the Marquise bag, his first bag (not to mention the only one launched with a name). While it was first introduced for resort, I think it’s a fabulous bag for year-round use. It just reeks of seduction and aristo-rebel attitude but is elegant enough for dinner at Mr. Chow or Kaviar Kaspia. When Peter first showed this bag to me over coffee at the Mercer Hotel, he explained that it was named in homage to the Palazzo Pucci, infusing the luxe Florentine house with some indie rock n’ roll spirit that only he could provide (I was just thrilled that nary was a colored swirl in sight!). Available in two sizes to suit all statures, the classic box shape is wrapped in black suede while a fully-lined canvas interior keeps the bag as light as can be. Sure, naysayers will note its similarity in style to Chanel or Lanvin bags, but check out those killer silver ring piercings that edge the entire bag! Break out the Balmain or Alaïa mini! The chain shoulder straps are great, too–perfect to wear as a normal handbag or across your body for a girl’s night out. For the quintessential–not to mention updated–Pucci girl, this bag is right on target.

Small ($1,435) & large ($1,595) available at Pucci stores, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.

A CHANEL Valentine

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

chanelbeigevalentine.jpgchanelrougemakeupbag.jpgI’m having a CHANEL fetish week, it’s been too long since I’ve had my fix and this week I’m satiating my appetite for everything Chanel (have you seen the sleep masks ($430)? You can be chic while you SLEEP! Now how many women can you say that about?!). And just because you have the classic quilted flap in every color imaginable, it does not mean you can’t have another one– I have a saying, once a Chanel girl, always a Chanel girl. So with Valentine’s Day looming ahead, I thought I’d help out our man snobs with a few lovely options– trust me, you can not go wrong showing up at home or on a date with a black Chanel box. Ever (seriously, flowers die and chocolate makes us fat so please put your money somewhere useful, and yes– I’m talking to my hubby). There are so many options for your valentine– does she love Hello Kitty? Then she’ll adore the classic flap in beige with cute little charms ($2,695). Is your sweetie a beauty snob? You must get her the rouge quilted make up bag ($475), everytime she re-applies her lip gloss, she will think of you!  And listen girls, there is nothing wrong with treating yourself!  Call a Chanel boutique near you to order, I like my SA, Alexis, at the Highland Park boutique- 214-520-1055. There are also limited edition valentine wallets, earrings and scarves on the Chanel website here.

Rachel Bilson in Chanel S/S 2010: Snob or Slob?

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Tell me that if the Chanel Woven Fabric Shopping Tote (with Lemarié Tweed Flower), that Rachel Bilson is toting around didn’t have the Chanel logo and chain you’d still think it cost more than $100 and I wouldn’t believe you! The Spring Summer 2010 collection had a lot to offer – including some gorgeous takes on the classic 2.55 (particularly the over-sized messengers) – but I just cannot find anything appealing in these dowdy patch-like flowers. The bag shape itself is nice and the interlaced chain and over-sized signature Chanel logo are chic (Chanel seems to be the only brand that can pull off those in your face logos without being overly obnoxious and I love that the logo here is done in metal and fabric), but why these patterned black flowers?

The Secrets of the Chanel Handbag” Exhibit

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

In New York City next week? Make sure to pay a visit to Chanel’s East 57th Street flagship store, where on the third floor the luxe French label has set up shop–namely, an exhibit entitled “The Secrets of the Chanel Handbag” designed to reveal the handbag’s je ne sais quoi while highlighting the craftsmanship that goes into making one of their most timeless accessories. As Bag Snobs we all know Mademoiselle Chanel first introduced her now timeless shoulder bag in 1929. From then on, she constantly used this idea until she eventually created the bag commonly known as the “2.55″ (which is in fact its “date of birth”) in February 1955.

The exhibit launches in the U.S. on May 8 and runs through May 16. The exhibit takes people through the construction of the iconic handbag and its fashion evolution over time. Visitors will be able to walk through and interact with a visual presentation featuring handbags from the Parisian archives and of course see the latest versions designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Why not pick up one while you’re there? Now you’ll be able to justify the four-figure price tag!

Claudia Schiffer in Coco Cocoon Bowling Bag

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Her outfit may be a bit odd, but Claudia Schiffer still looks stunning! Clearly pregnancy does little to tame her appeal and if the above photo isn’t enough proof, just check-out her nude June German Vogue cover which was shot by Karl Lagerfeld…damn! Given the model’s long-standing relationship with the Kaiser it’s little surprise that she’s often spotted in Chanel. Here the supermodel color-coordinates with the Quilted Nylon Bowling bag from the Coco Cocoon collection. Vanessa Paradis is the face of the new collection (one of the ads is pictured below), and the latest models continue where the first collection left off. Most bags are reversible (two for the price one!), and come in classic quilted silhouettes (clutch, messenger, bowler…). The Fall line has some new color addition however and for the first time there are some orylag fur-accented bags and one matte-finish alligator skin bag in addition to the nylon, leather, and calfskin ones.

Get Ready for A Chanel Handbag Tour

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Chanel Handbag History tourUsually, fashion is all about new ideas and designs, anything that is fresh and new, but recently as vintage look goes so popular all over the world, and as we always love to gossip about histories, there’s a wind blowing through the fashion world. It looks like that Chanel is now going the way of Gucci & Louis Vuitton, Embraces Heritage!

Louis Vuitton has its Core Values campaign, Gucci’s sent its artisans on a world tour, and Hermes always evokes a sense of history—all of which have proven a financial success this year.

So it’s about time Chanel countered.

Starting next Saturday, May 8th, New York’s 57th street store will be devoted to the history of the quilted bag.

They’re calling it an exhibition, “The Secrets of the Chanel Handbag,” and it’ll aim to show customers the bag making process, both of each individual bag and of the bags over time.

The most appealing part, however, may be the display of Chanel bags from the house’s archives, paired with more recent samples. They should really break out some vintage Chanel tweeds and make a proper exhibition out of it.

Yes, there’s going to be a Chanel handbag exhibition, and as long as we love those quilted bags we really can’t miss this, and what I’m pretty sure about is that we’re going to love Chanel bags even more after this. Disagree? Well, let’s see.

Chanel, ‘Three Bears On An Ice Flow’

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Chanel Handbags Fall 2010Chanel Handbags Fall 2010 collection is quirky and still fabulous, maybe not all of them, but yes, it’s worth taking a look, fascinating in total. This classic Chanel style is still my favorite though, there’re really some adorable icey cuties too!

To draw a conclusion I’d say, the Chanel handbags for Fall 2010 are both hit and miss. Well, let’s see. Karl Lagerfeld said the theme for this collection was “three bears on an ice flow”, and from that are some pretty ice-y looking bags and some furry monstrosities.

I’ll start with the ones I like, like the quilted flap bag at left. This is quite classic look, but still unlike the classic flap bag, this one is actually a satchel that zips open at the top, and I really like how it looks like the bag was barely dipped in black paint. Artful, casual, elegant and classic, just my girl, love it! And there’s some more pretty much classic Chanel too, always good to me. But those fur bags look just not so good as I’m really not a fan of fur bag, and some of them are just too much fur! However the icey ones look pretty cute to me, clean and adorable! Here’s three little ones look like some ice sculptures, very cute:

All About Florals, Spring 2010 Trend

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Spring’s officially just around the corner, so it is kinda urgent for us to find a nice bag for the beautiful season. Judging by what we saw on stages lately, it is pretty obvious that this Spring/Summer’s all about florals, light, dreamy and fancy! Well, then why not pick a nice floral bag for this season? Here are some really hot choices:
Dolce and Gabbana Miss Escape ToteI love this Dolce and Gabbana Miss Escape Tote. It looks so chic and so happy, the little flowers are so sweet! This floral tote is a great bag to carry to work or out to brunch with your friends. And as for practical use, it also offers a lot of room for the many essentials that all women need.

Nina Ricci Floral Jacquard PochetteThis Nina Ricci Floral Jacquard Pochette is absolutely adorable! The combination of the purple flowers and the metal hardware is feminine and elegant. But personally, I think purple is kind of too pale for a happy Spring, just not so happy or refreshing! Nevertheless, this is a very elegant bag which comes with a price tag of $1900.

Chanel Floral bagOf course, I can’t leave out Chanel, actually no woman can! It’s every woman’s classic favorite. What I love about the Chanel Floral bag is its harmonious mix of tweed and silk. Feels so like countryside chic and goes perfectly with Spring! It makes me want to take the bag and skip down the streets with it right now, because the bag looks so much FUN.

Valentino Rose ShopperOh, yes Valentino, very feminine! This Valentino Rose Shopper is a beautifully constructed piece. The oversized rose is not only gorgeous, it actually adds volume that will draw people’s attention to this bag. I love it very much.

Dior Hand-Stitched ShopperThe Dior Hand-Stitched Shopper bag is shaped like a bright blooming flower, which is exactly what I love about it! It’s the epitome of spring without losing the Parisian chic feel. Feels like fresh air in Spring! Also, this bag is not just about its looks. Its interior features multiple pockets, which allows us to stay organized, very good for girls.

Fendi Zucca Rose HoboAs you might already know, I’m pretty much a Fendi fan, so I so love this Fendi Zucca Rose Hobo! Although some may think it is Louis Vuitton wannabe, but I sincerely disagree. Although this bag is admittedly a little LV style, I think this bag is awesome in a real Fendi way! The roses floating atop the signature Fendi “FF” logo are the delicate and fun details that are perfect for spring. Also I think the red rose print is actually quite vintage, and I love the feeling!

Judith Leiber Marguerite Floral Minaudiere clutchIn Spring, Florals are obviously not just for the daytime. It can easily be carried at night like this Judith Leiber Marguerite Floral Minaudiere clutch. The flowers, made from Austrian crystals, are elegant and glamorous. You can carry this clutch to a hot date or a red carpet event. Totally stunning!

You know, it never gets old about florals when it comes to spring, they really brought the feminine and delicate detail that is desirable in this happy season. There’re indeed so many bright, refresh and fun bags you can surround yourself with, just pick your favorite! With a floral bag like this will totally bring you the mentality to renew and refresh with the new floral season. Well, enjoy these sweet flowers!

Chanel’s Spring 2010 Handbags

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

If we talk about the Chanel’s spring 2010 performance this year in fashion week it was as usual with fresh ideas and chic designing. Here with fresh ideas I does not mean new designing but spreading few details and new things to the old bag and making it fresh. We hardly see them going off the track.

Today when market is changing every second Chanel should also add some more bling to there stuff, Though there designing is fabulous and unmatched but sometimes you need something which has been never seen before.
